There are notable fans that enter the Pepsi Center for a lacrosse game. Whether with their husbands and kids, or perhaps a girl's night out, the women in attendance for a Mammoth game are a strong and not-so-silent force.
"I bought our Colorado Mammoth tickets for my husband and kids," said season ticket holder Nicole SanFilippo. "Secretly, I think I enjoy the game now more than them. It's pure excitement to watch this sport. There really is never a dull moment and I feel like I know the players on a personal level since they are so approachable and accessible. It's like watching my own kids out there."
Friday night's preseason game was preluded by an open house, allowing more than 500 fans onto to the field to stroll through booths, each manned by a Mammoth player. Autographs were the coveted prize, but Mammoth dartboards were given out and the opportunity to try and score against goalie Neil Tyacke.
"It was a great opportunity, at only $10 a seat, for us to see what all the hype is about," said Kristen Luevanos, mother of two. "It was my first game, but I can see the addiction. As a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan, I tend to embrace America's team – the Mammoth certainly have that potential. I never expected that there would be so much energy and genuine goodwill. The kids in attendance were passionate – holding homemade signs, screaming at the referees, shouting at the opponent to 'get in the box' after a penalty and high-fiving their mom and dad after a great play. For a sports enthusiast like me, it's easy to get drawn into that environment."
For both SanFilippo and Luevanos, the initial attraction to attend a Mammoth game was the price point of the ticket - a sporting event that they could take their families to without breaking the bank. They both had heard that the Mammoth games are also more than just a game – they're sport-tainment. With snappy music, chances to win prizes and multiple opportunities to meet and greet players, this year's preseason game did not disappoint these MLMs.
The 2010 Colorado Mammoth season begins in January and the team will host their first home game January 16. Check out their website for incredible ticket deals and family packs at http://www.coloradomammoth.com.
